A favorite and traditional dish, the recipe uses grated coconut to thicken the gravy, and a specific family recipe of 60+ spices which impart an unique taste. The Kala masala is available at our store, or online

Ingredients

  • 1 Kg Chicken
  • 4 Onion (long chopped)
  • grated coconut
  • 2 inches ginger
  • 2 small tomatoes
  • 1 small bowl coriander
  • 3 tsp Tumeric
  • 15 gms Kokan Bazar Kala Masala
  • 2 big spoons of oil
  • 2 green chillies
  • 5-6 Cloves of Garlic
  • Whole spices, like Tejpatta, Cinnamon, Pepper, Cloves, green and black Cardamom
  • Salt as per taste

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Take chicken pieces and marinate it with turmeric and salt.  Set aside. Shallow fry the onion, coconut and tomato. Mash it in a mixer. 

Step 2

In a pan add oil, finely chopped onion and fry till it’s golden brown in colour. Add the whole spices, 2-3 Tejpatta, 2 small pieces of cinnamon, 4-5 cloves and 4-5 pepper, green and black cardamon and let it cook on low flame for 2-3 minutes (do not add water). 

Step 3

Add the marinated chicken and let it cook on low flame for 3-4 minutes, till the oil separates. Cover and cook the chicken for 10 minutes (do not add water)

Step 4

Remove the chicken in a separate bowl. Heat oil in a pan, and add the mix of onion/coconut/tomato. Add the ginger/garlic/coriander/chilly paste. Fry till the oil separates, then add 3 tsp Kala masala and continue stirring the mixture.

Step 5

Add Chicken and continue stirring the mixture on low flame. Add the desired quantity of water. Cover and cook over a low flame for 5-6 mins. Garnish with coriander and serve hot
